The state pays to Kreditanstalt but impedes its business, says advisor to the President.

"A consultant for Bulgartabak deal was made redundant and most probably for good reason. Let vice-premier Vassilev say what are they", said for Darik Radio yesterday Dimiter Ivanov, advisor to President Parvanov. The Privatization Agency signed a contract which entrusts Kreditanstalt with watching over all privatization procedures and authorizes it to make the offers' assessments as well as compile the final report on the choice of a buyer. "I don't understand why Bulgaria should pay to these foreign mediators after it doesn't allow them to work, says Prof. Ivanov. During privatization procedure the candidate buyers haven't met the people of Kreditanstalt, either, said Georgi Tassev, representative of "Metatabak" consortium.

Every second Bulgarian family is living in poverty, shows a study of the Institute for Social Research with the Confederation of the Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), released yesterday. The poverty threshold is 107 levs and 40 to 45 percent of Bulgarian households are beneath it. To the experts of the CITUB, in a year, the prices of foods have upped by 6 percent, and of the industrial goods - by 10 percent. The actual increase in the incomes by end-year will be no more than 2 percent. The rise in the prices of energy carriers will result in 7 or 8-percent inflation by end-year, said Plamen Dimitrov, deputy chairman of the CITUB.
