Streets, Bridges and Communities in Debar to Bear Albanian Names.
Dnevnik
The Council of Debar Municipal decided to change the names of 51 streets in six communities as well as the name of the city square, which as of today will be called Skender Beg. The two members of the Council from VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM were trying to change the proposition from the Commission of municipal affairs regarding the change of the street names in Debar.
New names are part of Albanian national history, culture and art. So, from now on, Pitu Guli Street will be called Josif Bageri, the writer from villages of Dolna Reka area. Nikola Karev Street will be renamed in Elez Jusufi, great Albanian military strategist, Goce Delchev in Ismail Pasha, the first Prime Minister of Albanian Government in 1912, Vidoe Smilevski-Bato in Drenica, name of a town in Kosovo, November 29 in November 28, day of independence of Albania, as well as the day of Albanian flag. There are no more names of Zdravko Chochkovski, Tasa Martinovska, Zhivko Bogdanovski and Angele Obochki.
Six communities received new names. New communities Venec [Wreath]1 and Venec 2 are renamed in Uraniku, that is to say Tilebe, small town in Penestija, Budulec in Burimi, Konjare in Balkukji and the bridge at gypsum factory is renamed in Bademski Bridge, Melnichki Bridge in Radikas bridge, while Raichki Bridge [Bridge at Rajchica village] is renamed into Ilirija. In contrast to members of the Council who are Albanians, for whom this decision means correcting errors from the past when people with great achievements for Albanian history, culture, literature and art were unjustly forgotten, Macedonian members of the Council found this proposition unacceptable.
-We are aware that we will be outvoted. But in this case, non-Albanian inhabitants Macedonians from both confessions, Gypsies, Turks, are placed in subordinated situation, which leads to federalization, canonization, and ethnic cleansing. This decision permanently erases people who gave their lives precisely for Debar. This is not the way to concern with coexistence in these areas claim categorically non-Albanian members of the Council.
The president of the Council said that they work in accordance with the law and the statute.
Regarding the remark by one of the members of the Council, who were against this decision, that by doing this they are promoting names of the people and inhabited places from Albania and Kosovo, one member from Democratic Party of Albanians [DPA] said that Albanians have always had common history, while borders were issue solved by third persons.
